Motorcyclists raise £6,500 for Cancer Charity
Sunday 11th May saw again another record turnout for the annual Daisychain Run held in aid of the Wessex Cancer Trust. Around 5000 bikes met up at Totton civic centre for the popular motorcycle event. Escorted by Hampshire police, and headed by Tim Titheridge and BBC South's Sally taylor, who both hitched a ride on a trike owned and ridden by Chris Robins. The bikes of every shape and size went through the 22 mile route, taking in Totton, Lyndhurst and Hythe and ending up at Gang Warily in Fawley. The route was lined by 100's of well wishers who waved and cheered for over 40 mins while the "chain" went past. "In for a Penny - In for a Pound" was the motto for the day. Organiser Gilly Jones hoped that everyone who took part would donate at least a pound. The cash count at the end of the day was over £6,500. Gilly Said "everyone seemed to have had a fantastic time, and bearing in mind the weather forecast we have got a bigger turnout in Totton than ever" Unfortunately it was the weather that did prevent even more being raised. Only 20 mins after arriving at Fawley the heavens opened. Gladly, bikers are a hardy bunch and many people stayed to take part in the auction and raffle. They were buoyed on by local band "Lip Service" who faced the elements and played a great show. Gilly again "We are upset by the change in the weather, this is
the first year that we have got really wet, but anyone who didn't stay
and wants to reserve a t-shirt for the sunny days to come can do so through
me. I'm sure that if it had stayed fine we would have reached our £10,000
target, people have been very generous"
